I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the eggs are often already in the bag when you purchase it. You can freeze the bag for 24-48 hours and kill the eggs (which you can't see). If it's an infestation in your cupboard, you need to keep the flour in a zip bag or plastic container, and also clean up all the surfaces and cracks of the cupboards. Keep all grains, pastas and cereals sealed, and if you have bird seed or dog food store it separately in sealed containers. I have also heard that bay leaves keep the weevils and moths away.

I've had a parrot for 17 years and I keep his seed mixes in the fridge - never had a problem. If you keep things like grain, seeds, rice, flour etc., at room temp. those little eggs will become moths. They are there before the product is bagged. Actually, if there were none at all, I'd be a bit concerned about pesticide levels!

The weevils are already in there in the form of eggs. If they haven't hatched before you got the flour home, they will soon enough. To kill them before they hatch, freeze the bag of flour for 48 hours before using at 0 degrees, then store in fridge.

anything with wheat in it already has weavels, i know, yuk! scrub interior of all cabinets with bleach water & through away everything affected. Now, the fun part....When you buy more cereal, flour,crackers,etc.. put in zip lock bags or air tight containers...look mom, no bugs!

the eggs are there when the grain is milled. milling usually destroys most of the eggs, but there's always a few that get through. these hatch and lay more eggs, which hatch and....you get the picture. it's always best not to use old flour anyway, as it loses vitamins etc. over time, plus it gets weevils!

i wish i didnt know, but here is the horrifying truth-the weevils,which-like roaches, frequent warehouses where food is stored-lay their nearly-microscopic eggs in the flour.ditto for rice moths.leave the flour on the shelf long enough, and the tiny weevil eggs will eventually hatch.same thing for brown rice, which left alone in the back of a closet(as i found out in my messier, college days)eventually gives rise to small moths! u cant remove the eggs, they are too small 2 b seen.bon appetit!!!!!!
