NO. It depends on your definition of "safe". All heaters that burn material (wood, gas, kerosene) to generate heat also produce carbon monoxide (excluding catalytic types - as far as I know they are not commonly available). CArbon monoxide is a poisonous odorless gas. Additionally kerosene can leak or spill and cause fires. So if they have great construction (low risk of leaking) and are placed so they can't be disturbed (low risk of spills) and the fueling operation occurs outside and they are properly ventillated or are used outdoors, then the risk is small. No little kids or pets around, right?

You better check the General Statues of your state. Most states have banned kerosene space heaters such as Conn.
CGS-Section 29-318 specifically states:"Space Heaters Prohibited". Any space heater using kerosene, range oil or
#1 fuel oil are prohibited in any habitable space.
If you use such an anybody is harmed you would be responsible.
The National Fire Protection Association has prohibited the use
of such space heaters for many years because they are so dangerous.

If they are rated for indoor use -yes. They do dry the air and leave a smoky residue on the walls so place a pan of water on the to to reduce both of these and don't worry.

The Toyo ones that vent outside are fantastic! The models that do not vent may kill you and are illegal in alot of states.
