In another ominous sign that Steve Francis' future is bleak, the Knicks guard has left the team and headed to Houston to rehab his tendinitis-wracked right knee.

The symbolism was striking, as Penny Hardaway pulled the same maneuver last season, leaving for Houston to work with John Lucas and he never returned.

Francis' knee problem appears chronic and it's no longer inconceivable that this is headed for either a medical retirement or a buyout. Francis has three years and $48.5 million left on his pact, making him untradeable.

If the Knicks decide to buy out his contract, Francis may be interested in rejoining the Houston Rockets, and the Rockets are open to this idea as well.

The Knicks bought out Steve Francis' contract earlier in the season. His numbers were incredibly low: 10 PPG, 4 APG and 3 RPG. He is definitely past his prime when he was young and played for Houston.

All of the other answers were very informative. I did not know Francis was having knee problems. I know I had not heard much from him this year, but I just thought it was because Marbury was receiving a considerable amount of playing time. Great question.
