People will always fear what they don't fully understand and a tabloid will always be there with pop physchology and utter political bias to fill that gap in their knowledge. The Qu'ran can be interpreted in many ways - in the way the bible can - and it is open to abuse from SOME Muslims. It has nothing to do with Islam - it's a power trip. When the IRA were bombing the hell out of Britain no one declared war on Dublin - or started harrassing Catholics - it the US the Klu Klux Klan still exist under the Christian Crucifix - but no one's made all Christians carry extra ID.
The facts are that certain terrorist acts have been carried out in the name of Islam and that makes people angry. Unfortunately an awful lot of people don't pause to see that all Muslims are not genrically alike, that most of them are as horrified as non Muslims, and some are under the same threat as 'westerners'.

It is a combination of the vocal extremists and the PC brigade in this country. The vast majority of people in this conutry go about our daily business not really taking heed or interest as to what someone's private beliefs are. Don't know about the rest of you but i am generally too busy or quite frankly do not care.
But on the other hand you have people forcing "multiculturism" down our throats at every opportunity and others buring things in the street everytime something is said or done that they don't like.
If problems were as bad as these idiots (on both sides) make out then London would be on fire as we speak.
By the way, to those calling the asker a "racist", get a life or read her question properly. Bringing up the subject of racial tension does not make you a hateful person. We have something called freedom of speech here, she is exercising it and has a valid concern. And before anyone starts calling me a racist, dont......I hate everyone in equal measure.

I live in multicultural part of the UK to and I have some Muslim friends who are really nice people. I guess it is ignorance and what people read in the tabloids about terrorism and they started thinking that they are all bad. A lot of them are against the terrorism. I think it's better to get to know someone as an individual in person instead of judging them from the media as everyone is different.

Until those Muslims who disagree with this minority start to speak as loudly or louder than those preaching hatred and make their voice heard, people will think the worst.
Tell your friends to make more of a vocal stand against the extremists. When the majority of the population see that the majority of Muslims are as much against the extremists as they are, then life in the UK will begin to return to how it was before 2001.

This whole matter is very unfortunate but the facts remain, I understand, that it is Muslims that (1) have carried out the first suicide bombings, and (2) some of whom come from British born stock. I suspect that people's ignorance kicks in and from these simple facts, they see Muslims simply as a threat. I know many Muslim folk who are all super people and I feel entirely at home with. However, for people with little or no contact with the Muslim world, they simply see Muslims as different and worthy of caution. But the fact remains that it is Muslim fanatics who have caused this suspicion and hatred and they are the ones that need to be dealt with. I suspect that only time, education, understanding and compassion, from all sides, will sort this out. Yes, it is a tall order but we all need to try. But human endeavour is a tall order in itself ....... I truly hope that we can at least try.

Every one else in the UK seems to join in the multicultural experiment apart from 1 group who will not compromise, they want it all there own way and to hell with anyone who disagrees with them.
Look at the disgusting behavior of the young policewoman who in her passing out parade refused to shake the commissioners hand, as it was 'against her cultural beliefs' she knew the procedure before she joined, but chose to publicly insult the head of London's police force. Orthodox Jews have the same cultural belief but would have compromised for the sake of togetherness and solidarity, So would any other right minded human being. But a handshake was too much, why? Because these Muslims feel that there culture is superior to all others and the feelings of the Kauffer (unbelievers) do not matter.
When the caliphate is established and sharia law is introduced, does she really think she will be allowed to be a police woman.
As to all your Muslim friends.
Ask them why they constantly refuse to publicly condemn there Muslim brothers who carry out these atrocities.
The worst most vile criminal, if he is a Muslim, is worth more in their eyes than the most righteous kauffer. Those Muslims who are too west friendly are going to be asked to choose either firm up there religion or they will be condemned as kauffer too.
Once a Muslim if you try to stop being one under Islam you are subjected to the death penalty, to be carried out by any Muslim who can find you. so what do you think your 'mates' will do.
Choose you over Islam?
If you think these people are your friends you are in for a rude awakening.
The people in the UK don't fell threatened, they are threatened.
And their weak government is just sitting by and letting it happen.
And It does not matter where they are born Islam is a religion not a race, this is cross border ideology. don't you listen to what your friends tell you.
All Muslims are brothers, irrespective of ethnic origins, their loyalty is to Islam, not to any specific country. that is why the British bombers were able to so easily murder there fellow Brits.

For EXACTLY the same reason that you feel that everyone in the UK is threatened.
Read your question again and try to actually see the racist remarks you are making.
You have told ME I feel threatened by Muslims -- thank-you because i obviously need someone to do my thinking for me!
I have NO Muslim, Indian, Asian, Black, (or any other type of person on this planet) people as friends.
I HAVE FRIENDS!
I DON'T CARE WHAT THEY BELIEVE, WHAT THEY LOOK LIKE OR WHERE THEY ORIGINATE!! I don't think they care either.
I prefer to make a judgement on a person when I know them.
To ask questions like this and throw all of one nation, colour, religion together, is racist and simply fuels the race row.
If more people saw through others to what lies inside, the world will be a better place.
*************************
For those that think that the religion of a Muslim is wholly based on a "kill the unbelievers" tenet.
Have you hypocrites forgotten the Crusades?
Let me remind you.
MILLIONS of 'Heathen Savages' (for Heathen Savages read NON CHRISTIAN!) were killed by God Fearing Knights on the orders Of The Head of the Church who was the King Of England!
Religions have been the cause of almost EVERY major conflict in our entire History! That's just our recorded history.
Christians have been responsible for their share of atrocities, as have EVERY OTHER RELIGION!
Try reading the true Histories rather than a book of fiction that apparently tells you to kill other faiths!
ALL faiths have a variant of Thou Shalt Not Kill. The Heads of the Orders INTERPRET the messages of their religions Holy Books.
Don't blame the extremists. Blame the religious Leaders for finding impressionable nutcases to do the work that GOD DECREES!!!!
ANDREW READ THE ANSWERS PROPERLY AS WELL AS THE QUESTIONS. ANYONE PUTTING A NATIONALITY OR RACE OR RELIGION OR COLOUR OR SIZE (I CAN ADD MORE AND MORE TO THE LIST!), IS BEING RACIST.
LOOK IN A DICTIONARY FOR THE DEFINITION OF "RACIST"
1. The belief that race accounts for differences in human character or ability and that a particular race is superior to others.
2. Discrimination or prejudice based on race.
This can be applied to nationalities as well.
The questioner categorises ALL those in the UK, No distinction is made.

How do you know that people in the UK feel so threatened by Muslims??
but if they do it is due to events of 9/11 and the bombings in London and Madridm,, and the way the press & media have dealt with it.

I believe that people are brainwashed from the news and tabloids about muslims. I think people get paranoid that each muslim is someone bad and out to hurt others. Are all Christians terrorists? No, sure they aren't. This is the same as Muslims. If you get to know Muslims in your community you will find they are very soft kind hearted people. I know because I am a Muslim. Our religion teaches us peace and how to take care of any community around us. There is a story about prophet mohamed (peace upon him), He lived beside a jewish man. Each day the jewish man would throw garbage in prophet mohamed's (peace upon him) yard. One day the jewish man didn't throw garbage in prophet mohamed's (peace upon him) yard. This made prophet mohamed (peace upon him) worried about the jewish man, wondering why he didn't show up that day to throw his garbage, so prophet mohamed (peace upon him) went to go check up on the jewish man, and found that he was very ill and helped him. This true story is passed down to each generation, teaching us to love our neighbours whom ever they may be. I think the problem with muslims is that we don't share our religion and belief to others, so this makes it difficult for others to understand what we really believe. Speaking as a muslim, we are just like you and are people who love, care about others around us.
