Well, it won't stop working. Generate a magnetic field and the compass will point to the field's north pole, even on the moon.
But the moon itself does not generate a magnetic field of its own, although the rocks are slightly magnetized from the impact of formation and other meteors hitting. Nor will it point to the Earth or the sun or any such nonsense. The needle simply wouldn't move, unless you brought a magnet near it.

The compass will only point "North" if the Earths magnetic field reaches that far. Which I do not think it does. So the compass will then point in relation to any other magnetic field it senses, and since electricity flowing thru a wire forms a magnetic field then it will point to the field generated by the space ship.

It'll probably just point to the earth, or maybe the sun, whichever field is stronger. It might take a long time but eventualy it should point there.
Does the moon have a really really really tiny magnetic field of it's own? I don't know, look it up.

Nope, the Moon has no magnetic field. And it wouldn't point to Earth, either, since Earth's magnetic field doesn't extend that far.

I don't think the moon has a very strong magnetic pole.....it would probably just point towards earth all the time.

no it wont.......wutta frijolero questionte..........it works on earth because of those big magnetic rocks which names i cant recall...wut do u mean will it work?
