They were not sex slaves but slaves. Their participating in things like this for numerous reasons it got them out of work; made them closer to the owners (this way they were better treated) and of course they enjoyed it. You did not mention that in this time period is was considered normal to be with a same sex partner (some quite young). Some nationalities thought it brought about luck, vitality and pleased the Gods. Watching the advertisement for the 300 Spartans they felt it made them stronger! Not at all, this is a legitimate question about Roman social history. The best answer I can give you is, "Well possibly". Slavery was an accepted practice in most ancient civilizations. As a slave you were considered property, to be used as the owner wished. (Within reason, excessive cruelty to slaves was against Roman law.) As such, the owner could use his/her slaves for sex, regardless of gender or age for that matter.
As far buying slaves strictly for sex, it's unlikely given the practices I wrote about above. Many prostitutes (again male and female) were in fact captives/slaves and worked for their masters. However, as with other slaves they were allowed to keep some of their earnings-many buying their freedom in this way.
Temple prostitutes were in fact priestesses and came from the plebian or equestrian classes. Slaves/Freedmen were not considered "holy" enough if you will, to serve in temples.

This is probably true because it had to do with serving the Roman gods. there were many temple prostitutes in the old religions such as Assyria, Babylon, Canaan itself and Greece and Rome probably integrate this as well as other parts to their religion.
