hip hop and skating due to our society and the intermingling of cultures. a lot of it started with east coast and seeing as hip hop is a large part of the underground culture just as tagging and the underground music scene it's not hard to understand how the two can come together.
Skateboarding is an activity and hip hop is just a form of music. there is absolutely no reason why a person can't like each other. also because hip hop culture is a huge industry now a days it's not crazy to see that the two become more well known together.

I am going to go out on the limb with this answer. The skateboarding community probably listen to bands like Linkin Park, POD etc and it just so happens that these bands have collaborated with a lot of hip hop artists like Jay-Z. It is only natural that there would be cross over appeal.

They both require foot work. For example when your on a skate board you need to make sue that your feet are in the right position at the right time or you could have a serious accident! As in dancing it's the same thing, one wrong move can mess up the whole routine or get you off beat.

Well, there is a new sugre of black skateboarding groups and you have black artist like Lupe Fiasco and Pharell who are promoting skateboarding among the hip hop community.
