I went back after being out 34 years. I just completed my Masters Degree last spring. At first it was difficult getting back into things. I didn't think I'd like it but stuck with it for a minimum of one year. It then became part of my life. I did find myself more cautious than the first time but . . . I'd do it again . . . easy to say now that I am done, and glad to be might I say.

Do It!

One of my friends, who is 45, is in nursing school now. She had not been in school for about 20 yrs and didn't do well when she was in college before. I don't know exactly how many schools she applied to, but I know that it was several. She was only accepted to one. They told her that she would probably not be able to get into nursing school in Washington State, because of her prior GPA. (there aren't a lot of colleges in Washington, compared to many other states and there's only one nursing school, so its all very competitive) However, she worked very hard for 2 yrs, got good grades, and aced her interview. She was accepted to nursing school over people with higher GPAs because she was very professional in her interview and very clear that she is really dedicated to being a nurse. (she had been a massage practitioner for 7 or 8 yrs, so she was able to related one to the other...). I know she's working her butt off, but she's doing it.

I just finished grad school recently and I've got a great job. I was not the oldest person in my program. Work hard and get well prepared for your field and you'll have no trouble. Good Luck!

While I am not of that age, I just graduated college and there were five or six in my ceremony alone who were over the age of 50, one over the age of 70. Many of them were also wearing honors cords. So, if it is in your heart, you can do anything!! Good luck to you.
