4 Eggs!!

A hen and a half lays an egg and a half in a day and a half. That is, 3/2 hens lay 3/2 eggs in 3/2 days. Thus, 3/2 hens lay 1 egg per day. Thus, 1 hen lays 2/3 eggs per day. From this we get, 1 hen lays 6*(3/2) eggs in 6 days. i.e. 4.
Voila!

I'm going along with quite a few other people and saying the answer is 4. To look at it another way:-

1.5 hens lay 1.5 eggs in 1.5 days. If we give 1.5 hens 4 times as long (6 days) then they will produce 4 times as many eggs, or:-

1.5 hens lay 6 eggs in 6 days. If we double the amount of hens we would double the amount of eggs laid for the same period of time, or:-
3 hens would lay 12 eggs in 6 days.

Finally, if we divide the number of eggs by 3, we would only produce a third of the eggs for the same period of time, or:-

One hen would lay four eggs in 6 days.

4 eggs.

The question gives the clue that each hen takes 1 and1/2 days to lay an egg.

1 and 1/2 x 4 = 6

so there are 4 eggs in 6 days

Four

In 1.5 days, 1.5 hens lay 1.5 eggs.
Double this (it's easier to work with whole hens, and kinder to the birds!) = in 1.5 days, 3 hens lay 3 eggs.

Multiply 3 eggs x 4 (the total for 3 hens laying for 6 days) = 12
Divide by 3 to get results for one hen = 4 eggs in 6 days

Ah, this old chestnut. When I was taught it it was how many will 9 hens lay in 9 days? (54 for the same reasons as people have mentioned here)
For the cretins who say you can't have half a hen, I recommend you trying out the 'I couldn't have been doing x miles an hour, officer, I've only been out for 20 minutes' routine next time you get pulled over for speeding and see how far you get!

(# of hens)*(rate of laying)*(time)=# of eggs
1.5*r*1.5=1.5
Therefore, r=2/3--one hen lays 2 eggs in 3 days time.
Therefore, 1*2/3*6=4 eggs--1 hen in 6 days time.
