I don't know, but it's still a volunteer military, and if I had children, I would put them first. The bigger question is how come the rich don't sacrifice their lives or their kids to fight? I am really saddened by the death toll numbers we hear every night on the news and the numbers of wounded or maimed who do this all for their country.

How many children lost parents before we went in to stop the killings, rapes, torture and life prison sentences for disagreeing with the ruling party? How many kids have lost parents in the bombings of the criminals that belong to the insurgents that can't stand freedom of choice or an opinion of someone that does not agree with their religion? I find it depressing when people on here look at one side of an argument and makes comments from personal feelings instead of from facts. Maybe I am wrong but until we have no more compassion for these religious zealots will we see the truth. "I wish that the whole world had what we have here in this country; even if it is not perfect!"

Thus, how many children lost a parent on the sneak attack of 9-11.
the sad thing is that sometimes children lose a parent in armed conflict. but if I were a child of a parent that was taken from me in Iraq. I would be proud of that patriotic parent. who volunteered to go into harms way and had a fighting chance.
next question!

Quite a few, but it's ok. All of those children will have new daddies within a year or two.
