We had an experience at a restaurant just like this example. There were plenty of waiters and busboys around, coming and going. My child was rather noisy, and we still didn't get any attention. Finally, I went to the manager and told him we had been sitting there for over 15 minutes. As upset as I was for being ignored, I was also careful because I didn't want the waiter to backlash at us and spit in our food. So, I would say, assess the surroundings-are they busy or just ignoring you? Consult respectfully to a manager, and hopefully you'll get better service. (At the end of our meal, per his recommendation, we tracked down the manager and he gave us 50% off our ticket.)

I would because you're just waiting and you're hungy you want him/her to get to you! And if he/she is doing it in purpose I would say a litlle somethin' somethin' to the maneger!!! If they don't have that many people they should hire more! Also, it depens on the situation and if the place is crowded I would wait for the waiter or waitress. And it depends on how long i have to wait for them if it's 5 minutes I would wait. But, if it's 15 or more minutes I would either get up and look for the manger & and ask him to get my order or tell him if he could take my order. And I would leave if I cannot find the manger.

No this is not good behavior, try this. You can fall asleep and force the waiter to wake you, then start crying help I'm being assaulted. Or you can just walk around the room and make new friends at different tables, talking ghetto style,Hi Dee Hole? Hi Dee hole family dat is.Or you can put on you MP3 player and start singing really off key to everything. Or you can take off your shoes and run your fingers through your toes with one hand and the other hand should be scratching your butt. Or you can start a game at your table by throwing napkin balls into the water glass for 2 points. Or begin a pre eating ritual at your table that can not be disturbed with a trance dance as you sing and speak in tongues.

I generally look around and size up the situation first. If the restaurant is especially crowded and he/she is running around and obviously busy, I'll cut him/her some slack and be patient. On the other hand if they are standing around chatting and laughing and I'm the only customer there, that's another matter.

I also take into consideration how much time I have to wait. If I'm going to a show, I generally tell the maitre d I'm on a schedule. He should pass this on to the wait staff and get me out in time.

It depends how busy it is.Sometimes they will have to be running all over the place and it can take a while. They might not have even been told somebody was at their table and that doesn't help. Not to mention,if it's taking to long to get your food, there is a good chance it's not their fault at all. That would often be the kitchen's.
Ask somebody before you leave about it first.

I wouldn't just get up and leave. It depends on how busy the resturaunt is. If it is obvious they are busy, I'd be patient and/or just grab the next server or manager to come by. But if they are just slow I would say something to the manager.

It all depends.

If s/he is chatting or taking a smoke and not working, I'd leave.
If I see that s/he is really busy as they are short of people, I'll just practice my patience, but I'll never return to that restaurant again.
