They seperated and have had no contact in 17 years, How does she find out if he divorced her, and when that was?, she has moved severel times since the split, and no paperwork has ever been recieved, any information would be great. Thanks

Google Marriage in New York and find an address. Provide details of the marriage, names, place date etc. and ask what you have to do to find out details of any divorce. At the same time ask if there was no record of a divorce how does one go about obtaining one. I assume your friend wants everything finalised so she might be the one who needs to take the action.

I think she'd know if they were divorced. Unless he's claimed she was missing presumed dead, and after a while the marriage is nullified and he's free, but if he did file for divorce, she'd need to know about it, and efforts would have been made to find her. Unless she was an illegal alien over there, she could be traced easily from her national insurance number.

She has to get a legal divorce in NY State. Contact a lawyer if you have no money; otherwise, go to a family court. They will tell you what to do. It will essentially be free, about $500, max.

Have her contact the court house in the county of the state she lived in with her Husband. and ask If there were any papers ever filed.

She has to call the court in which her former husband resides to see if there is any divorce decrees in that city/state she would have to call the clerk of court.
