I like to think that Americans are good people. They are good and bad in every country. My question is do all Americans care more about winning wars and money than morals.

Every American I have met acts like they are a king because they are from America.

Is it possible for an America to show class (and I don't a big house and a sports car)

Basically are there Americans who don't go on about WW2 and love America. The whole set up makes me sick.

There must be Americans, who just want to fit in and don't think being American gives them a God giving right to the best.

Is that possible?

There are plenty of decent, good, hard working Americans, like myself who have morals. I certainly hope you know some because if not then maybe you're going to the wrong places. Everyone isn't money hungry & certainly everyone isn't into big houses & sports cars. There are many Americans who can't even afford a car & take public transportation to work every day. They struggle just to provide for their families & don't even have time to worry about who wins what war. Look around you & perhaps you may see some of these wonderful, good Americans.

Far Far too much attention is paid and credence given to the hyperpatriotic , uber-religious , conservatives who've of late passed themselves off as mainstream for quite some time.

Reasonable, informed citizens do exist. However they are commonly and unfortunately refered to as fringe liberals and otherwise marginalized in much of the US pop-media, whether they share a liberal mindset or are in fact more conservative in position.

As far as the arrogance of Americans, that tends to stem from sheer ignorance about the rest of the world and also a bit of imperial nostalgia, in the 40's and 50's the US was genuinely widely seen as being a benefactor to the European powers and to a lesser extent the elsewhere around many parts of the world, and now seems to verge on becoming a outcast/parriah superpower. So for the last few years in particular and certainly since the mid 1980's the media in this country tend to carry on as if it was still the "good old days" and alot / far too many people are informed that somehow we're still there.

It's been my experience that americans themselves are often shocked that the world is not as they have been led to believe. As far as Americans loving America, part of that is natural and to be expected from any citizen of almost any country.

But there is an exceptionalism which only just now has really begun to loose it's luster, perhaps most eloquently represented by the clowns that brought us the utter failures of the warmed over Machiavellian worldview of the delusional neoconservative intellectuals. No better spokesmen for governmental hubris and intentional stupifcation of the populace have been so effective and so close to power in almost 60 years.

Furthermore with regard to the in the disaster in the middle-east, it's becoming clear to more and more Americans that they "might" have made a tactical error or two.

I think what will happen is as the EU,China and India start using more resources and the US can no longer operate as if in a vaccum, it will force many to realize it's not just, the US (and then everyone else) on Earth, but the US media tries very very hard to keep that delusion alive.

At the risk of sounding like I am approaching the attitude you are upset about, personally, I like to believe in Winston Churchill's comment regarding America, "Americans can always be counted on to do the right thing in the end....after all other possibilities have been exhausted." I just hope that statement is still true. I also wish it was the case we did things differently.

I don't believe I'm king. There are times when I would love to go to another country, that I don't consider America the best, that I wonder "Are we even free anymore?".Everytime I turn around it seems like things are going down the drain.
People say that in other countries there are high taxes, less freedom, more problems etc.But I don't believe that anymore.I'm hoping to start college later this year and worried, because I'm not poor enough to get any help from the government nor am I rich enough to already have it.And there are almost no scholarships I can actually apply for without lying. From what I hear in many other developed countries that school is a lot cheaper.
I get sick of being judged by people who have never even met me.They judge the people that they see on TV and our politicians.Who are mostly a bunch of idiots everybody wants to strangle.
Most Americans don't have big houses or sports cars to show off.And many would love to be able to actually get this war crud over with and even be able to work with other nations.
Sadly,I have no say in what will eventually happen.Nobody cares what a 17 year old girl or people her age have to say. We're "young and stupid" according to them.

Do you think we are at war in Iraq right now for the money? Trust me that isn't the case. Even if it were so, we would never be able to replace the money and American lives we are losing in this war, with Iraq. We are their based on a moral stand point! I think any country that goes to war is concerned if they win or not. It would be idiotic not to. Weither, the rest of the world thinks it is over oil or not, that is besides the point. Someone had to help those poor people that Saddam was torturing! Why do you think that the people of Iraq executed him? Because he was a good person? No, it is because he tested chemical weapons on them, because he executed them by the hundreds , because he did things to them, that no human being should have to endure. What is wrong with being proud of your country and what it stands for? Maybe that is what you mean when you say Americans act like kings. I think if your are not proud of your country and don't act like it, their is something wrong. We are proud of America, because it is one of the greatest nations ever. What other country can claim that they allow their citizen the personal freedoms granted to Americans? What other country, has put their foot down and said enough is enough, when it comes to inhuman acts performed by the leaders of some countries and terrorist? I think the countries that sit by and let it happen should be ashamed of themselves. Basically what I am saying, is that god didn't give us the right to be the best, our hard work and determination is what gives us this right. I think it is time the rest of the spineless governments around the world would take a stand to try and make the world a better place, instead of standing by and watching the suffering that happens around the world. When it comes to lending aid to other countries America is there, when it comes to taking an inhuman dictator out of power to help suffering people, America is there. I think you people with anti-American attitudes need to stop being jealous of us and direct your energy in a more positive way, by trying to help. I really don't understand the anti-American attitudes of some people.

Well I don't know every American individually but I'd like to think the majority are good people with some common sense and knowledge of the world beyond their borders. Its easy to generalise but realistically its always the pratts that get the publicity, believe me not all Brits are like Jade Goody what a hideous representative for our country but I'm sure there will be a lot of people thinking that is whats Brits are like.

Play nicely children.

I do believe it is possible for us all to respect one another as human beings - without making judgement on where born, what colour skin, what religion or even food preferences, etc.

Let's all just try to be a bit more tolerant, don't make yourself ill over other's delusion.

One thing us Brits have in common with the US - Both countries have lousey political leaders - to be honest I do think US has a bigger problem in that area!

Yes, for a few, as I travel around the world see many Americans that are vain and egotistical they don't show respect and compassion like we should show people in general. It's the Government that the people around the world don't like also. Seen a survey on Yahoo Q&A that Anerica is the most hatted nation in the world.

Yes there are many good Americans. You see a lot of them here. Lots are misguided though and many are full of themselves and wish to rule the world and kill anyone that disagrees with them. Unfortunately these are the ones we hear from most. A lot are apathetic and live out their lives quietly. These are the ones I envy but I couldn't live without taking in what a mess the world is in.

Yes there are good and moral Americans--most of whom never seek to be President. There are all those that donated money to 9/11, Katrina victims and the tsunami victims. Most of these people don't travel outside of America because they don't have the money.

That's true...I don't think I am the best. Most people I know don't either. Most people here don't have huge houses and sports cars.
