What kind of cd should I buy, and what brand is the best? The pictures are very important to me, so I want the CDs to last for a long time. I am a little confused about the whole cd-r, cd-rw, dvd-r....thing.

There is a definate quality difference between high and low end CDs, so yes make sure you buy good ones. Verbatim are the least expensive of the "top of the lines" so I would recommend them. However just so you know, no burnable CD will last forever, even the best of the best only have a 10-12 year lifespan.

Also, -R means burn once, -RW you can burn multiplie times. CD means CD, and DVD means a DVD, that fairly straightforward.

We use the CD-R Fuji-film. We have 218 pictures on it and it only used approximately 1/4th of the disc. The rw means it is rewritable. The only time we use a DVD is when it is a movie.

cd anything, it will put pictures on it for sure. the dvd thing is just too complicated. At work, i have an extremely good computer, and it still couldn't figure out the dvd thing. Movies may be different, but just pictures will work. Plus, just copy, don't move them and if you mess up the cd, it won't matter, they'll still be on the harddrive

CD-R means that you can just record to the media, the RW means that you can erase the disk and use it again.. I would go to Wal-Mart and buy a pack of 50 Blanks disks, the disks are all about the same.
