Alexander, after the battle with the Indians, employed war elephants into his ranks. Just thought I'd add that.

Given the limitation about known troops, Julius Caesar would have won. Unless Alexander found a battlefield where his flanks could not be turned.
Alexander would have to break the roman front, Caesar with his Germanic cavalry would likely turn either flank of the Macedonian phalanx like Titus Quinctius Flamininus at the Battle of Cynoscephalae with similar results. The maniples would allow better tactical control to Caesar thus being better able to exploit weaknesses in the inflexible phalanx formation.
A battle aligning identical troops with Alexander vs Caesar would be a hard fought battle. Likely a draw.

Even if Alexander was a better commander, the Roman Legions after the Marius Reforms would roll right over anything Alexander and the Macedonians could field. They were the best disciplined, best organized, and best equipped army of the Classical Age. (except maybe the Spartans)

Gaius Julius Ceasar. His use of organisation, tactics, and technology was genius. Alexander was a great leader, but just not in the same class at all.

alexander was bolder and could inspire his troops to win in a fast and furious action but caesar was a great general who had a more disciplined army,if the battle is long and drawn out,caesar will get the upper hand.soldiers would go to the ends of the earth for alexander but they would die for rome.

If you are talking about Alexander the GREAT. Then, Julius would win because he had Rome with him and Alex only had Macedonia. He had others but still... I'd root for Alex though...
