Looks something like this:http://www.visualsunlimited.com/images/watermarked/227/227311.jpg? What you're seeing is Saprolegnia or Achlea growing on the flake. These are in every fish tank, so yours is no different. It used to be considered a fungus ("a water mold"), but it's now classified as an algae. It doesn't have any green to it though because it's not photosynthetic.

It's doesn't harm your fish by itself, but if the fish have a wound, it can invade the fish's body.

See article for photos & info (articles are older, so they still call it a fungus):

And if there're uneaten flakes, clean them out of the tank and feed less!

I think that is probably some sort of mold eating the old fish flakes. This may become dangerous to the fish at some point. Try feeding the fish less so that there is less food left over after their feeding and clean that tank.

the two water mildew, fungus or micro organism. the two way it needs to circulate. Do a competent vacume and use B-sparkling (Hagan) as recommended on the bottle and fill your clear out with polywool. Be back to ordinary in an afternoon or so. interior the destiny, do no longer feed them as lots and in case you do see nutrition sitting on the backside after the fish have finished ingesting, do away with it. solid success.

Sounds like mold. You can avoid this by not overfeeding your fish. If there are uneaten flakes then you are overfeeding.
