I really want to write a romantic poem about the object of my affection (kind of as the underlying theme). Can you give me any themes/ideas and/or ways to start the poem. I don't want any lines; I want it to be entirely by me. Thanks in advance.
If you must give lines, please give them in iambic pentameter.

I know, I've written a poem before, but I think that it's quite crap, and had to risk "abuse and ridicule" in case I'd get a decent answer.

If you can't write such a poem yourself, you are no poet!

How about starting at the beginning and make the first stanza about when you met. Then make the second about what this meeting made you feel. The third about your next meeting (or the next meeting of note). The forth perhaps about your first romantic encounter (or what you propose one could be if you are not yet a romantic couple). Continue with theme so that the penultimate verse is about how you feel today and the final verse is about why you have written the poem and perhaps hint towards the future.
Something I do is add a poetic chorus stanza, that is to say I add a stanza that repeats between some other stanzas to make the poem seem more like a song. This stanza can also be modified by a few words or in tense to give a continuity and yet a clear progression.
Don't exaggerate or lie about anything and don't contrive facts to fit the rhyme or the meter. If you are going to read it aloud then practise it over and over and make the words into a true performance.
Iambic pentameter is very easy to work with but might seem a bit old fashioned these days, perhaps. Shakespeare used it a lot as did Milton but a lot of more modern work is in iambic tetrameter which is lighter in tone. Just a thought.
I hope this helps. If you want any more specific advice or ideas feel free to e-mail me. I write a lot of poetry and can explain things better if you give me more concepts to work with.

Good romantic poems are really hard to come by and almost impossible to write. Depending on the object of your affection (like if it's a girl or something material that you love) the poem could vary in many different ways. You could write about love, about being in love, about loving someone, etc. You see how many different ways you can write it?
Well anyway, if you're writing about something you love as the underlying theme, you'll end up using a lot of allusion in your poetry as well as imagery to foreshadow your theme. I can't really give you an example unless you can kind of express how your poem is going to go......
If you want help in writing it, you can email me at skaur1290@yahoo.com.

it's always hard to think of a way to start. what i normally do, is write down everything that i want my poem to say on a piece of papar, just as notes, then try think of some good imagery for each point, then find a rythym and fit your words to it. if you don't have enough inspiration, maybe you should wait until you next time you see 'the object of your affection' and it might give you some ideas. basically, just plan out what you want to say on paper, and then see where it takes you. good luck!

read some poetry by Pablo Neruda for example Tonight I can write the saddest lines and any of his love poems really; very sensual and extremely perceptive. These won't give you the lines but will shoe you what can be achieved.

I would start by free writing for about a minute or two in a notebook.
Write down anything that comes to mind when u think about the person. Cluster similar ideas together and make a quick outline.
Write a first draft. Read it out loud to yourself in case you wrote something that doesn't feel write. Edit it until your satisfied with it.

Think, Heart, Soul, Desire.
Love Object, Passions Fire!
Alone - Lonely. Apart - Sad.
Coupled - Together - fated - Glad!
Write the words from the Heart.
Read it though and be sure.
Tell your Partner how you feel,
Get the message? Get the Picture?

A poem should come from your heart and soul. It's your deepest emotions and feelings on paper. It must come from you, especially a romantic poem. I think you should do this on your own. It should come naturally if you've ever been in love.
Don't give me a thumbs down because your too thick to think!

You dont want strangers to help you. Look into your heart and let your feelings roll....if that doesnt help..go online search love poems and steal different lines from different poems and combine them! Wa-La!
