Do some people from the south dislike people from the north?

do people from the southern part of the u.s.a hate people from the northern part i mean maybe not hate but don't some people dislike people from the north and call them yankess?

Some still carry a pseudo-traditional prejudice towards anyone from the northern states, though in most cases it's both unfounded and un-intentional.

A few have been taught this prejudice, and comply with it despite the fact that they've had little or no contact with a northerner...and therefore no personal bias to base it on.

...then there's the fringe element; Resentment toward anyone who resides north of the Mason-Dixon line has become a serious element of their personality, and they couldn't correct it if they wanted to.

Of course: There are few places in this country that I enjoy visiting more than the southern states, and for the most part the locals are friendly, cordial, hospitable, and fully enjoyable to hang out with...and if you want to sample the best cuisine in the country, you've got to spend time in the South.

I'm from Long Island, NY and now live in South Carolina. I am married to a southern man and have 2 children. I have NEVER run into a Southerner that *really* dislikes people from the north.

Although from my experiences with northerners and southerners, I've seen that people from the north see people from the south as being ignorant, but look at the kind of people they interview on TV from the south... It's always Billy Bob in his dirty overalls with his missing front tooth and an awful drawl.

I think most Southerners are joking when they refer to a Northerner as a Yankee. Although some southerners stereotype people from the north as obnoxious, aggresive, loud, etc. If they do decide they don't like someone just because they happen to be from the north they probably find many reasons not to like people such as race. See - Y'all....

I call people from the North yankees but in no way do I mean it as an insult.That's simply a term down here for Northerner.Some people do think that people from up North are no good though.Which is just as dumb as judging people in another country that you don't even know.
Oh,and the people up there who just tried to "act" like a Southerner,are a big portion of the reason that there is hate.Says thanks to them if somebody from down South is mean to you.

Most proclaim to dislike Yankees, but it's mainly in jest and a vague feeling of having lost something during that unpleasantness with the north.

b/c the south felt that they had the right to leave the union an te North wanted to keep them in. The north did all that they could to torture them for deciding to make this descion. (north= union south=confederacy). the north won. (1800's)
1/3 of the population was enslaved during that time, making them uneligable to support the war effort. The north had 4 times as many free people .

Yes I'm from the south(now living in PA)&sometimes when I'm visiting they even hate me--for deserting yhem I guess,but there are plenty of wonderful southerners who love everyone

HA HA! Its too funny to think about. I'm sure there are some nice people in the south. When I think of a southerner, I think of slow witted, lazy, uneducated, incestuous, dirty, hillbilly type. What do you think of that y'all.

I don't dislike the south or the west coast or anyplace in the world, becuase you can't judge people on where they live
