I was admitted to the hospital last Sept.2006. My health insurance paid most of the hospital bills and there were still balance that i know it is my obligation to pay for it. After I received the billing statement i called up the billing department to arrange a payment plan but they will not agree me paying 100$ to 200$ per month because they want me to pay off the balance within 4 months right away.Unlike the other hospital and my doctors they would accept whatever I can afford to pay,,but this hospital they wont allow me, instead they reported me right away to the credit beaureau, and also told me that whatever the remaining balance they are going to sell it the the other bank and it is my obligation to pay that bank. But on my side ,,I still continue to pay them and I didn't miss any payment to that hospital and still continue paying until now .Do they have the right to endorse my account balance to the bank without my consent? I guess they are trying to make business to that bank.

it may depend on where you live but i was under the impression that as long as you are paying something (even $10 a month) that they can't turn you over to a credit agency. you should check with the local laws and see. maybe the better business bureau.

I watched a show on debt collectors the other night it was 20/20 I think anyway they will say anything to get you to pay and they are not in any position to make it happen. They get a commission off of all the debt they get paid in full. So yeah this is there pay check and they want you to pay and to agree to pay to all of it even if you have to sell that new kidney they transplanted into you. LOL of course I am no legal person but I did find it interesting to watch how the threatened people and was down right rude and just mean and they can't do any of that but they will say to scare you so you will agree to pay cause when you agree to pay then they have a yes to go in and bug you some more until all of it is paid

Sure they can sell their accounts receivable. Car dealerships, other commercial enterprises do it all the time, mortgage companies are famous for passing around your mortgage. No, you have no recourse, whoever holds your debt obligation is the one you pay, if you have been notified by the hospital that the debt has been sold to a bank, you need to pay the bank, the hospital has no obligation to pass your payments to the bank and can just pocket your payments as gifts. Quit doing that. You should have received something from the bank, a payment plan or something. Talk with them.
