yes you can. when you plug it in it'll ask if you want to sync with that computer, say no. Then click and drag their library onto your iPod. It should work. I did this with all four of my cousins.

there is no reason why you shouldn't be able to do it...but before doing it make sure you set your ipod settings to manually synchronize the library...that way your files will not be erased when you connect your ipod to his computer...don't listen to the first three people who wrote above, they have NO CLUE what they are talking about...listen to winter or me

I think you can updated without erasing your songs. I found this on the ipod website. hope it helps

Updating iPod
If you need to update or restore an iPod shuffle,

First, it is important to understand the difference between "update" and "restore."

"Update" simply updates the software that controls iPod and does not affect the songs and files stored on iPod.

"Restore" erases the iPod and restores it to its original factory condition. Because restoring iPod erases all of the songs, videos, photos, and files on iPod, make sure to back up your files first.

For instructions on how to restore iPod, see "Restoring iPod to factory settings".

You can download programs to do this, but the fact of the matter is, I wouldn't mess with it. Bring a blank CD, copy all the files to there, and then bring the CD home and put it on your Itunes.
