US is ruling Iraq. They have no restriction to kill Iraqi civilians, the above excuses are just excuses to hide timidness of US soldiers. The very fact that they wants only kill and are not ready to get killed make them extremely cowrad. And those who are fighting against US in Iraq, they are ready to die for the sake of a noble principle make them extremely couragreous.

All wars are fought within the constraints of political reality. I'm not totally up on whats going on over there. But my brother and nephew are both over there now. The nephew for the 2nd time the brother for the 4th time.

As I understand it the rules of engagement have changed to the point where you (average citizen) are more free to use deadly force to defend your self on the crowded streets here than they are over there. Here if you are threatened by an attacker with a weapon and you fear for your life, in most states you can open fire on the attacker. In Iraq our troops have to wait until the attacker actually opens fire.

The second political reality is that the new Iraqi government is really in charge and they until recently have restricted attacks by U.S. troops on various armed militia groups which were known to be making attacks not just on U.S. troops but Iraqi civilians. I hope the new strategy calls for taking off the gloves and exposing the steel fist.

You are right, we can't defeat an enemy that we permit to have sanctuary in Mosques, across borders of hostile states or in particular neighborhoods in Baghdad.

Unfortunately, our soldiers are fighting with one hand tied behind their backs thanks to the whiny libs crying over the Geneva convention, and the lessened troop strength (as compared to Desert Storm) has not helped at all.
