This question is for people who have had experience with different roommates. Is it rude or unusual for a new roommate to stay in their room all the time, even if the person is polite and nice when they pass you in the house or in other places? Or are some roommates like this all the time, even after sharing a your place a few months?

Some people like their solitude and privacy, and stay home rather than go out. That is THEIR business and shouldn't bother anyone else. They have a right to their lifestyle!

I have had a quite a few roommates in my past. Each person was different. Most just needed time to get to know me. I did have a few that never surfaced unless hunger called. It just really depends on the type of person they are.

Some people are private and don't care to be social butterflies. I have trouble interacting with people I don't know intimately and my roommate understands that. They don't mean to be rude, they just have different social styles than you.
