There is a small 'switch' on one of the edges of your floppy. It needs to be moved to its other position. That's as clear as I can be. Check your disc.

Off the top of my head it sounds like the floppy drive has failed (as all disks don't work in it), or the cable the connects it to the motherboard is on upsidedown (is the drive light always on even when the floppy is not in use?). Alternatively you may be using disks that are too high capacity for the floppy drive (if it is very old). Has it ever worked before that you know? If no the cable may be the issue. If yes the disks themselves (not compatible) or the drive has busted.
I suppose this error may be generated (maybe) if you haven't formatted the floppy yet. Sometimes they come pre-formatted but if the disk is supposed to be blank then what the heck, reformat it.
Are you able to try these disks on another computer? If they work on another than your drive is either not compatible with those disks, or it is broken.
Other options for you (besides replacing the drive and disks- get a rewritable CD disk for cryin out loud) include sending the files to yourself as attachments - a free hotmail account or yahoo! account should have at least a few gigs of storage space. Then you could save them on disks from another computer. A very inexpensive flash drive from any computer or office store would enable you to simply plug the flash drive into a USB port - then save to the drive as if it were a floppy (windows will assign it a name, as the floppy's name is a: or b:).

If its a smaller plastic floppy.. there is a little tab on the back that you open by flicking it down.. if its a old paper type floppy take the tape off the back notch... (again ...I didnt know they still made these things)
If its doing it on all disks, it could be a stuck/broken switch in the Drive (most are switches but I have seen a few led optical ones too)

In the lower left hand corner of the disk, (with it face up) there is a little sqarethat you can open or close to write protect or not write protect. Make sure it is closed to not write protect. Then it should save.

There will be a small button like thing at the top of the floppy, move it to the other side. This will unlock the floppy and you can copy it later

Try saving to your hard drive and see what happens. Have you tried this yet? Do you have a ZIP drive, or even a rewritable CD/DVD, try saving to those and see what happens. If all else fails, see the answere 'Dug' gave.
