The unicorns and other creatures had forgot to set their alarm clocks. It is sad, but I hear they really couldn't tell time anyway.

Teach the child what a MYTH is. Then he would understand why a MYTHICAL creature couldn't be on the Ark. Add to this thought that NOT EVERY CREATURE WAS ON THE ARK. People think every critter we have now was around back then. They don't grasp evolving and cross-species breeding. Might have been 2 or 3 types of dogs then and we have 200 types now or something. They evolve into new types based on where they lived and how they were raised.

Well, technically, people claimed to see mythical creatures, like dragons, unicorns, etc., after the flood. So, if we're saying that they are/were real, they either did not need Noah's help or they were allowed on the ark.
Perhaps they used their magic to escape the flood. Maybe they can traverse between the physical and spiritual realms.

The fire snorting dragon got on the Ark because England saw these guys as late as early 1600's. Evidently quite a few species became extinct after the flood. Before the flood, they only had a dew on the earth so after the flood the weather must have changed drastically. Fire snorting dragon would need to hide in a heavy rain storm. Just a thought!

Noah was following the instruction of God.
God specifically planned for only living creatures to go into the ark.
Mythical creatures are often beasts and monsters. If they go into the ark, they would eat up all the livestocks and Noah's family.

Because they're mythical, and they don't exist. Just like the whole story of Noah's ark. Look up Atrahasis, Gilgamesh, or Uta-napishti.
