Why are they saying that there were less then 100,000 people at the anti-war protest today? I was there (Washington, DC, national mall). Two hours after I started marching there were still people starting. The National Mall was FULL of people. The parade streched for miles. Don't tell me there was less then 100,000 people there. There was at least 250,000.

If you were there, and saw the people, you could not trivialize it. The march stretched from the mall to the capital building and back. Besides, what is wrong with people expressing an opinion about something. We have a right to protest something we don't believe in. How would you feel if the right to protest abortion was abolished? (or the right to protest for the women's right to choose (I try not to make assumptions about other peoples beliefs))

They always underestimate these things. I have attended several and the rule of thumb is the police and media usually vastly underestimate the crowd size and the organizers overestimate the size, so the rule of thumb is it is in the middle of the two.

The organizers said 500,000 people were there and the unofficial police count is 100,000, so that put the real number at about 250,000 so your estimate is very close to the actual likely number; however the news media (overwhelmingly conservative is calling it "tens of thousands and showing close up shots which minimize the real numbers..this is typically done.

But if 2/3rd of the country is against the war and this is one of the biggest rallies ever, it has the attention of those in charge even as they minimize it.

I arrived 1/2 hour late due to bus and subway travel and when I reached the mall near the Washington monument and had to travel to the capital to hear, it took 45 minutes for me due to disability and needing to stop and rest frequenly due to pain..the whole time I observed from benches that people were still arriving from the subway and walking down the green in a very steady stream, so they were arriving 1 1/2 hour into it and going strong still several abreast when I reached the huge group and I quit observing the arrivers. Many artrived before 9 am and this was about 12:30.

Over 300 buses (60 people per bus) were there according to the united for peace website who organized the bus transportation so that is people right there is 18,000 people.

Because I was unable to march after the speeches were through due to pain, I sat and observed the two wide lines of protesters on either side of the stage. I sat there over an hour; talking to an older man who seemed to think there were a million people but I disagree with that estimate...they still were marching by when I finanally quit watching them and decided to go to the nearby American Indian Musuem as the bus wasn't leaving for home for some time.

When I reached the 3rd floor of museum, I looked out the window and saw many people still there and got a nice overview..when I reached the 4th floor, I looked out and saw that the march was still returning to the capital green area. This was around 4 pm which was over 2 hours after the matrch began so they were still returning 2 hours after its start, so you are right there. When I reached this area outside about 5:00, the marchers had stopped so it did run at least two hours after it started.

It is frustrating to always be ignored, but the important thing is you were there and so were so many in spirit even if they couldn't come to dc. Many attended local rallies too..someday when your kids ask why didn't you try to stop what was happening in America, you can say I tried if we aren't successful..if we are successful, you can claim being a part of saving lives and changing the direction of our nation.

Those in power always get the upper hand, but people are energized when they attend and witness these events and take it back home and continue to fight the good fight. Remember "first they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win" (Ganhdi), so the rich may not always be winning.

Don't let these people on here upset you; they are part of the problem but they are just so angry that they are in such a minority now so they are more mean and vocal, trying to discourage and demean you. They can bluster away, but you have right on your side.

As presidential candidate Dennis Kucinich said at the rally "blessed are the peacemakers for they shall be called the children of God"

Heaven itself is on our side even if the media isn't. We are on the side of truth and love. Be proud of who you are and of your patriotism.

Too bad the Marines didn't "accidentally" drop a few 2,000 pound bombs while flying over. If you're helping the terrorist effort, you should join them in Hell.

sounds like your opinion on the numbers and your doing just as they always do..."the million man march" and others...? I guess it just sounds better to those that were there and need to feel like they represent the rest of us. Thanks for giving our enemies and critic's more to point at and hate us for, great job you all did today!
