Write about your life, current events, someone else's life, etc... Pick a topic that you feel strongly about and the words will come. The more you feel the easier it will be to write.

You'll also get more respect if you write your own material.

I don't know very much about country songs because I really listen to the pop and rock and heavy metal music. But I guess I could say I'm quite a good songwriter (according to my bandmates who are also my best friends so they might be bias, haha).
So the first step to songwriting is not to get inspiration, but to get the real thing you want to talk about, the theme of your music or song. Then start with a lyrical poem that has a good beat that goes along with it. Forget about the composing first if you don't have an instrument along with you at the same time. Get a rhyming scheme that's pretty simple like AABB or ABAB. I sure hope you listened during Literature class.

Then when you get the first verse done (about 4 lines with editing), rewrite it in a different way like you're talking from the opposite third party. Don't write in full sentences like you're talking and don't make the rhyming too deliberate. Listen to your favourite country artists for inspiration. Carrie Underwood is pretty good I think. LeAnn Rimes too. The second verse should be neat and sound similar to the first.

Choruses are catchy and good ones can't get themselves out of your head. This is not so easy to write so start simple and edit them until they are perfect. Try synomyms if the same word repeats itself too often.

Bridges and pre-hooks are unnecessary unless you want one. Closing is important!

You can join the songwriting competition open to everyone. Entry form at http://www.songwriting.net/entryform.html . Watch out how you phrase your words and good luck if you decide to join the competition!

Well Dana is really rude! Anyway i am not much of a songwriter, but i am told that when they want to write a song, they just sit down with their instrument for as long as it takes and they just kind of let the song come to them. Just play around with it. Don't be afraid to show of your work. i am sure a lot of famous country singers thought their songs were dumb at first. Good Luck!

Ya kno...u don't have to write songs. Hire some people that will. U just sing 'em. If u have a good voice, who really cares if u didn't write the song. Start out small....like do karaoke or something and then go the next step up. Good luck! I hope ur dream comes true!

Alot of those performers don't even write the material they record.
They buy the rights from songwriters.
