These come to mind: Either the ball isn't seating well over the drain in the back tank [so water keeps running out/running in] or the float is waterlogged so doesn't rise far enough to the surface to shut off the water supply.

Check alignment of the ball. It may be off-tilt enough to not really seat/seal.

See if it's starting to break down [might leave icky black goo on hands if rubber in it is too old. If so, it's best to replace the ball].

Same with the float. If it's waterlogged it stays too far submerged and it needs to float to the top for shut-off to [really] shut off. Else it will keep drip-drip-dripping... even if it's not actually running...

If yours has a wire on lever-type apparatus [screws into the ball] see if it's corroded or bent - or simply not well aligned over drain. Vinegar can help clean the corrosion [as can costlier products].

There's always the old stand-by - Jiggle Handle After Flushing - If that works chances are it's one of the above. All fairly easy to fix.

I hate it when this happened!!! Some toilet is just not happy where it is. You would be sick and tried of run after sometime.

OK You might need a new seal at the bottom of the tank. It's very cheap and easy to fix. Lowe's or Walmart.

lift the tank lid and look at the chain that connects to a rubber flap, if the flap is not flat on the bottom, your water will constantly run, if the chain broke, I have fixed a many of them with a paper clip.
The intake water hose connects to a tube running vertically up from the bottom of the tank , see if the water from the tube is running inside of the tube that runs up vertically from the bottom.
Easy fixes.

Jiggle the handle(temporary fix). Adjust the arm so there is not too little play in the chain.

Check whether the float moves as the tank fills.

Is the chain that's connected to the rubber flap too long or twisted. You may just have to adjust it.
