Seeing that eggs have been an animal development for a very long time, at least back to the fishes, it was the egg. Fishes and their eggs developed into amphibians and their eggs, which turned into reptiles and their eggs which turned into dinosaurs and their eggs which turned into chickens and their eggs. Chickens came along about 400 million years after the egg.

If you mean any kind of egg, then yes, jellyfishes and worms had eggs hundreds of millions of years before chickens.

If you mean chicken egg, then they came at the SAME INSTANT. You cannot say that the egg is chicken's unless chicken lays it and/or comes out of it. Therefore, the moment first chicken hatched it defined the egg it hatched from as chicken egg (laid by not-quite-a-chicken though).
You may also make an argument that since the chicken came out, it was a chicken egg all along so the egg was first. However, don't forget that chicken defined it as such by hatching; if it didn't, it wouldn't be recognized as chicken egg (because not-quite-chicken laid it and nothing came out).

The chicken came first. The problem with the chicken/egg question is that it is so black and white. Evolution theory teaches that there were many stages of interim "chickens", which have since not made it, evolutionarily speaking. These in turn laid "interim eggs." However the animal was capable of evolution, not the egg.

This has been asked 5000000 situations on right here. It became the egg. It is going like this: Creatures have been evolving into the renowned-day poultry over an truly long volume of time. ultimately a poultry became born with the basically spectacular genetic disease that made it precisely what cutting-ingredient-day chickens are today.
