1- It is okay to wash your hamster - buy a shampoo specifically for hamsters/rodents/bunnies. Keep them out of drafty areas until they are completely dry.
2- Hamsters are pretty good about keeping themselves clean.
3- Keep your chips/bedding clean. I would like to note that pine chips can carry mites - which cause itching... So try the shredded paper bedding or cedar chips (which make them smell so sweet).
Best wishes!

My vet told me not to get a hamster wet including giving a bath. The risk of respiratory is great in small animals. We use sand baths like for a Chinchilla and they love it. We have a cat who actually will wash all our hamster if you bring them to her, she doesn't care for the long hairs too much though. Most hamsters don't mind their bath, but some do mind and we take them away from her. The cat has been surrogate mother to, I guess, 50-60 puppies, kittens, birds (yes birds), and hamsters in her 11 1/2 years. Oh yes and now 2 rabbits. We've never otherwise bathed our hamster that have numbered over 30 at one time and currently we have 22. No water baths still, they don't need them. I have 14 cats and only one of them gets bathed, she won't wash herself and loves water.

you can use a wash cloth to clean them but you can not give a hamster a bath they will drown I know this because I have hamsters of my own. They also wash themselfs like a cat does. There might be some kind of spray wash you can buy in the pet store to spray on them.

Is normal to wash them, the tecnique is kind of difficult, just grab him gently but firm, and wash him with lukewarm water, use hamster shampoo.
Good luck.

Hamsters clean themselves. Keep fresh cedar chips for him to roll in. He will lick himself clean like dogs do! Change the cedar chips once a week and your smelly hamster problem will be gone!

run the water before you put it in,make sure it's warm, check the temp. with your elbow, have your gentle shampoo ready wet it but keep the face out of the water and don't get soap in it's eyes, rinse and dry,if your scared to do this then wipe it with a warm wet wash cloth and dry it

if u really really really REALLY want to wash ur hampster, then u just just get like an eye dropper or sumthing that doesnt release a lot of water (you could even just wet ur finger), and wash him that way. just dont stcik ur hampster under the focet or put him in a bowl with water.
