Take the 1st numbers from each set of brackets, then find the difference between the big number and the other. do the same with the 2nd number in the brackets, then multiply the two results together.
2 - -1 = 3
1 - -7 =8
3x8 = *24* (units squared, eg cm^2)
Hope this helps!

List the vertices from one point to the last point in counterclock order and from top to bottom.
Then repeat the first vertice.
(-1,-7)------first vertice
(2,-7)-------second vertice
(2,1)--------third vertice
(-1,1)-------forth vertice
(-1,-7) <-----Repeated first vertice

Multiply the x-value of (-1,-7), which is -1 by the second vertice's y-value. You should get 7. Then do the same thing with the x-value of the second vertice and multiply it by the third y-value. Repeat the process until you get to the repeated first vertice.
And then add all the numbers together and you should get 18.

Now, multiply the repeated vertice's x-value by the forth vertice y-value. You should get -1. Then do the same thing with the x-value of the forth vertice by the y-value of the third vertice. Repeat this process until you get the first vertice. And at last, you should get -30.

Now take the sum of the first multiplied process and subtract the second one. And then do 1/2 of the product. And you should get that the area of the rectangle is 24.....

1/2(18-(-30))=24<------Area of the rectangle.....

It's a lot easier to do by hand rather explaining it....If you didn't get that answer....take a graph paper and draw all the points and then count the block of the width and length and then multiply them together and you should get the same answer. <----it might be the best way to find the answer to the problem you have...

Hope you get this!...

you can either solve it by graphing or by coordinate geometry.

for the latter.

1) Side a is -1,-7 to -1,1 or 8 units in length
2) Side b is -1,1 to 2,1 or 3 units in length
3) Side c is 2,1 to 2,-7 or 8 units (which helps prove it is a rectangle)
4) side d is 2,-7 to -1,-7 (the starting point) or 3 units.. which proves it IS a rectange

to do this we simply subtracted the paird numbers for example in step one we got (0, and 8).

So the sides are 3 x 8 units with an area of 24.

simple???

Find the lengths of the larger side and the smaller side of the rectangle. In your case they will be: 1-(-7) = 1 + 7 = 8 and
2 - (-1) = 3. So area of your rectangle is 8*3 = 24 square units.

The answer is 24

You don't need a formula, it's simply find the area of a rectangle after graphing the rectangle,

(to find the area of a rectangle, you multiply the 2 sides together)
The length of one side is -1-2=-3
the length of the other is 1--7=8

8x3=24

Graph the rectangle, then use the distance formula for the edges that you can't just tell by sight.

distance = sqr((x2-x1)^2+(y2-y1)^2)
