An e-book is an electronic book for your PDA. You can download them and read them just like you would a book.

The difference? They are two different programs. The Blackberry reader is specifically for the Blackberry operating system. The Adobe is compatible with Palm OS and others. You need to download Adobe e-book reader for your PDA and install it to read and electronic book.

Try www.mobipocket.com to get started. They have the program (which is free) and tons of books. They even have free ones to try out.

Electronic books come in a variety of formats; Some you read with your webbrowser, some need Adobe (.pdf format), and some are created and coded for WindowsCE (trimmed of bells & whistles for PDAs, cellphones, pocket PCs,etc.).

Your PDA needs a proprietary reader (software to open the specially coded files) for that specific format, while your computer is better suited to the full (and heavier) versions of the same software.

For example:
Your email may use Outlook on both the PC and the PDA...and while they look similar, they are two completely different formats.

Ebooks are simply written for electronic transfer, and although only 10 years ago they were mostly marketing junk...Today you can find thousands of titles in nearly any category, from Novels to Bestsellers to Reference to Children's Classics.

More titles are being converted every month, and made available for download.
