To further detail my ?, heres my response:
…and then I wonder, are unpleasant emotions…or being stuck in a state considered uncomfortable… only emotions felt during times when happiness’ absence is apparent?

Maybe...we are simply the victims of our oh-so-dear reflections. Imprisoned, held back by nothing other than our thoughts.

Sometimes I do think we are slaves to our own reasoning... but then I think this: Everything we do or have learned has been from someone else (our parents, teachers, books, etc.). So, are our beliefs really are own or someone elses? Perhaps we are not really slaves to our own reasoning, conclusions, and assumptions... perhaps we are slaves to society.

So often when we are held back from an achievment we tend to blame everything around us, before we realize that it isn't external issues to blame, but ourselves. Our own fears of accomplishment and the change that would come from it are what holds us back.

To have fear from ones self is to be afraid of our emotions. thoughts. desires. dreams. to be afraid/fear of our minds thinking is a fear we can not release until we have the faith confidence .
Meeting your enemy , standing in front of a mirror will be the one who either keeps you from succeeding or makes you succeed.
you and you alone can make the difference.
