Pshaw. Edgar Allan Poe was a loon (entertaining, but a loon) and Leonardo was gay. They saw women as "ideal" as a rejection of the dominant society paradigm that women are devil spawn, meant to be barefoot and pregnant in the kitchen. I think it was more of an art and philosophy exercise to them than a feeling that women are divine. I love Poe and I really love Leonardo--his paintings are so incredibly beautiful and depict women as so lovely and wonderful. I love that! Don't get me wrong. But that's not respect--that's paint and talent. He loved beauty, but doesn't it seem kinda self-serving for an artist to make something beautiful?
Many traditional societies viewed women as mystically powerful because they had babies and all. Power of regeneration.
We're not divine, not any more than men. A lot of feminists would like to revise history to make it like women were goddesses until repulsive men shat on us and made us degraded. We're all just people, and none of us deserve to be seen as "divine." Elevating the status of women to divinity is just another way to keep us from being equal--it's another form of sexism. Either we're goddesses on a pedestal, or we're brooding sows in a pen...come on!
It's ridiculous to elevate men to their position of power. But the reverse is also ridiculous!
We need BALANCE. EQUALITY. None of us are deities!

To men, yes, women are usually divine.
I would say that we're nothing without a good man ... and a good man is nothing without a good woman; so we're 1/3 of the divinity.

We are divine. Why? We have more patience, a much higher threshold for pain, and above all, we bring new life into the world.

that is a very good question,
I have looked into this and cannot find any good explanations.
I collect angels and it is hard to find a masculine or male angel, but there are plenty of gorgeous woman angels.
I wonder where the idea of a woman angel came from.
