I know this is going to sound stupid, but how can you tell the difference between spotting and a miscarriage?

On the 19th of Jan, when I was wiping, I found a trickle of blood, then that was it. This morning, when I woke up I noticed more blood, and have been bleeding all day. The strange thing is that when I use the bathroom, there is quite a bit of blood when I wipe and in the toliet, but very little on the pad. Also, it is red, but very very watery. i don't know what to think, as I got a positive on the hpt on Tuesday, and this is my first pregnancy ever(been ttc for 10 years).
Please no rude comments, I really need some help.

Oh, I forgot to mention that I'm not having cramps, it feels more like muscle twinges, and only for about 3 seconds at a time.

When I had my miscarriage at 6 weeks, the bleeding started light and then got very heavy, period heavy, within 2 days. Have you had sex recently? That causes bleeding. Some steps to take:
*Rest, get off your feet.
*Call the doc and they will let you know if/when to come in (its Saturday which in my town means you have to call the hospital and have the doc paged)

There's no need to rush to the ER, unfortunately if it is a miscarriage, there's nothing they can do to save the pregnancy this early into your pregnancy.

P.S. My last pregnancy which resulted in a full term baby, I had 9 days of spotting around 6 weeks pregnant.

Call your doctor now! If you don't have one then go to a clinic or emergency room. If you are having a miscarriage it is usually accompanied by cramping, but since you are so early in your pregnancy, it could be different for you. Also you could have an ectopic pregnancy (in your tubes) It is generally accompanied by sharp pains in your shoulder are of your back. either way you need to see a physician as they can tell you for sure. I have had a miscarriage at 11 weeks. I had slight spotting for a couple of days, and then on the 4th day I wiped and it was like "OH I started my period" then I remembered I was pregnant and shouldn't be having one. The cramps started many hours later! Becoming more intense as time passed. I can't say this is how it is for everyone, just for me. An ectopic pregnancy can cause you to hemorrhage, so you need to see a doc pronto!! Don't blow this off, I know it is scary since you have been trying for so long, we were trying for 17 months before conceiving him, and we got pregnant again 1 month after the miscarriage, so keep your chin up and get some help!!!!

You need to call your doctor. You are likely miscarrying. I'm very sorry. If you have any spotting/bleeding at all, you really need to call your ob/gyn and get checked out. If you take a pregnancy test today and it's postitive, your baby's still alive, if it's negative, I'm sorry, you've miscarried. You'll need to be seen either way.

You must call your OB or go to the ER. Itr sounds like it may be a threatened M/C. It could just be a period though, some women have them normal or lighter than usual for the first month or two.

When I was pregnant I use to spot frequently. If you are concerned then contact your OB-GYN immediately. They usually have someone on call 24 hours a day. They can call you back and you can voice your concerns.
