Hey i have turbohydramatic 400 tranny, thats well over (a good 6 -8 inches) the full mark on the dip stick.. I wanna drain the tranny fluid out of it but can't seem to find a drain plug.. How do I do this?? And how bad is it too run a tranny what is overfulled by that much?? Would that be the reason my revs drop so much when i change into drive???

Cheers, any help would be great!!!!

Oil level is smack on the full mark, when idling.. I thought it was like engine oil, and that you check it when its not running.. Cheers All!!!

the filter pan IS your drain. has nothing to do about the reving.any ways check tranny fluid while engine is warm idling and in park you should see the fluid is closer to full then

Change your fluid, you have probably ruined it by now. Take off the pan, let the oil drain, then get a pit cock (go to automotive store with your drain pan and describe what you are grying to do (install a drain) and they can hep you. Another way of getting the fluid out is a tool that runs off of your battery it is a pump that will suck the oil out of the transmission.
Never, never, never run a chevy transmission with too much fluid it will start to foam and that is what is causing your shifting problems. When you are done fixing the pan, drain, filter and new gasket then start adding the fluid a little at a time, be conservative, better slightly low than slightly high

To drain the trans you will have to drop the pan from the trans.....there is no drain plug on the stock trans pan. Check the fluid level while the car is on a level surface, up to operating temperature, and the trans in neutral. Continuing to run the car with the trans overfull will damage the trans.

why did you fill it so full ? yes it is bad to run a over full transmission, you wont find a drain plug because there isnt one you can pull a few of the pan bolts and drain it that way but you may still have a leak when your done or you can disconnect one of your transmission cooler lines from the radiatior and drain it that way

to drain the trans you are gonna have to pull the oil pan then drill a hole and install a drain.most people just drop the pan and change the oil and the filter but when you do that you don't change the oil outta the lines or the trans cooler.

to drain the fluid you have to loosen the bolts that fasten the pan. if you're clever you can loosen one side more than the others and control the "spillage" so you can catch it in a bucket. why is it overfull??

There is no drain pug, drop the pan. And yes it can be pretty bad. Depends on how overfilled, and how you drive.

sounds like it is ok if you checked it while warmed up and in park and it's on just full.
