I am wanting to grow some more unusual bulbs this spring in Houston. Any suggestions will be appreciated. I would like something that requires little of no fuss and will come back each year.

MS. EJ, The best dahlias to grow in your area are [1] Dahlia merckil[2] Dahlia coccinea[3] Dahlia imperialis for shade. Another perennial native to Houston is Columbine Hinkleys Yelow, suppose to smell good ans reseeds well, part shade, don't over water. Begonia's are hot in houston, but let me tell you a growers secret when it comes to having nice begonias, DO NOT water after 9:30 in the morning, for me, I like to water my Begonia's, the leaves are thin and sunburn easy, when you put cold water on to a sunburnt Begoinia leaf, the leaf liquidfies and turn to mush! You could probably grow Freesias as a annual, bring it in as a house plant during the winter. Happy Planting!!!!
