Yes conservatives stopped thinking 100 years ago and are resistant to change. Actually compassionate conservative is another oxymoron as if they cared about the poor instead of keeping it all for themselves.

Just because you have conservative beliefs doesn't mean your thoughts, even if they take place in a tank, are irrelevant, fit to mock, or, most importantly, insincere.
What you are really saying is that is is uncool to be a conservative. This may change in the future with the cyclical swings and roundabouts of politics.

good judgment and straight forward experience are the beginning place of conservatism, as its based in trial and blunder. Conservatives tend to have self assurance interior the tried and authentic, what works. Liberalism is the antithesis to this.
