they avert their eyes look at the floor etc. You tell them they are not being honest and with that they tell you it's because they are thinking. Well you can't see their face to know. Are they still lying or were they truly thinking back in order to reply?

I had a feeling he was lying. It was my ex boyfriend who took a comment I made the wrong way I felt. When I asked him what he thought i had meant he looked away and started starring into space, looking at the floor etc. Like he was trying to pretend I hadn't said anything. At the end of the conversation in question he had said i'm not in the mood to play games and went off with the hump.

Good point Kiwi. I usually say umm I think, or err. I don't stare into space or at the floor if i'm thinking.

Most likely lying.

Don't most people look up, overhead when they're thinking?

All of my life I have had great difficulty in looking someone in the eye when speaking or listening to them. It is nerves, in my case, I am not a liar. I do look down, up, sideways--just anywhere away from the person's eyes.

It is possible they were reflecting on what happened. However it is also possible they were lying, only you can decide I suggest you go with your gut feeling on this.
