It's essentially the major label, mainstream music industry giving itself a pat on the back for its market dominance by honoring people that are merely popular as "best" in a particular form of music. Since most of the public is ignorant of the music that goes on outside of the corporate sponsored mainstream, they give the Grammys credibility even if they do not deserve it

The Grammy's are rigged. They are also controlled by large corporations. No one really listens to the crap they sell. I haven't watched them in 15 years.... ever since Jethro Tull beat METALLICA for best metal band. ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME???!?!?!?!!
