Try taking your shirt off to iron it.! On a serious note though you could try rubbing soap on the burn it will cool the burn down, you should do this immediatly after the burn occurs.

I woke up from a prolonged coma, due to a road traffic accident, with a maze of scars on my face and head, mostly due to surgery. Scars from burns carry much in common with other scars, such as surgical scars, or so I was told by my dr.

Good diet and some 'creams' that I rubbed in helped me. My scars are so much less noticeable. It is usually better to start treating them earlier, but older scar tissue has still responded to treatment. Do not treat open wounds and research further - a good place to start is a doctor, chemist of complementary health store.

I used Vitamin E lotion to treat the scars on the spot and made sure my diet had loads of Vitamin A, C and E. C is especially important for healthy skin.

There are some products that claim to help scars disappear, to some extent. I tried a couple, including 1 that contained silicon - I think this helped me more than the other. It wasn't a silicon implant, just a cream that I rubbed onto the scar. There is also a patch treatment that is claimed to help, though I don't recall its name - it used to be sold at UK Boots stores.

Laser treatment may also help, in the longer term.

To avoid getting burnt whilst ironing, wear appropriate clothing - perhaps including gloves, though these would need to allow you to control the iron etc. freely.

Good luck, Rob

Have you just done this? In which case you need to apply ice, ice, and more ice ... a bag of frozen peas or similar, for at least twenty minutes (your flesh goes on cooking for a very long time, sorry to be so graphic). Then cover it up with clean gauze or cotton and don't apply anything else (no ointment, nothing with grease in it - that'll just cook its way in). That ought to minimise the possibility of scarring, but then as soon as you can get yourself to the emergency room (if it's a big burn) and see what they recommend. Good luck.

Burp - it's 3 hours since you put on your Q - I hope you didn't do the ice or the cream - ice will burn you even more and soap or cream ( unless Silvadene or Flamazine for burns specifically) wil irritate the area and/or provide a base for bacteria.

Next time you/anyone else gets a burn put the area burned under runnning cold water ( unpleasant but well worth it ) for 15-20 mins even if you think it has stoppped burning and depending on type and intensity of burn seek medical attention/not. If you can get Silvadene (?US) or Flamazine(UK) keep it in house in case of burns as it will soothe and heal the burn - apply generously and cover if poss. with clingfilm (saranwrap) as ordinary dressing will absorb cream.

Will look cream/green next day but okay if burn just red at site (after cleaning with saltwater or cooled boiled water with salt added). If oozing++ or redness extendng up/down from actual burn see Dr for antibiotics.

Hope your burn is not too bad.

Treat the burn first. How deep is it? If it's 1st degree, you probably won't get much scarring.... but if it's 2nd degree, try this....

Silvadene cream (Rx from the pharmacy) is GREAT. Once it begins to heal and you have a layer of skin over the burn, I highly recommend Mederma.... OTC at your pharmacy and Vitamin E oil.

hold an ice pack over it and rub neosporin on it 2 times a day for 5 days! Try not to rub it against anything, it can irratate the skin and make it last longer. wash it daily

you don't make it clear if the burn was on you or the shirt, you should know if a mark is on you, find out by looking at yourself. As for the shirt, either put another mark on it symetrically or promote it to being a duster.
