This question is not about who had the most rings, it's about who dominated the opposition. As you can see here Wilt was by far the better player.

Bill Russell did not win 11 rings by himself and that shows in his points per game average. His 11 rings does not make him a better player than Wilt. You put Wilt on the Celtics and they win 15 or 20. Case closed.

Games:
Wilt Chamberlain -1045
Bill Russell - 963

Rebounds:
Wilt Chamberlain - 23,924
Bill Russell - 21,620

Rebounds per game:
Wilt Chamberlain - 22.9
Bill Russell - 22.5

Points:
Wilt Chamberlain - 31,419
Bill Russell - 14,522 ( Not even close )

Points per agme:
Wilt Chamberlain - 30.1
Bill Russell - 15.1

I believe the question is who was the best big man and not who has the most rings. And the answer to the "question" at hand is Wilt "The Stilt" Chamberlain.

Bill Russell won rings on a loaded Celtics team. He didn't do it by himself.

Lets all remember that the only stat that matters is wins vs. Losses. Why do people think that scoring is the only way to win a championship. Do people forget that Russell and Wilt went head to head for most of there career and Russell always got the better of him. Do you think that when Wilt played his goal was to score a hundred or to win a championship, my guess is win a ship. Russell hands down the only guy that has a championship ring for his big TOE.

Shaq, Hakeem "The Dream", and Kareem easily go ahead of Wilt or Russell. Those last two revolutionized the position but the modern centers of the 80s and 90s were more skilled and athletic then those guys could have ever been.

Bill Russell
sure, he didnt score 100 in a game and he doesnt hold the record for most points scored in nba history.
but he was a great shotblocker and defender, 5 time MVP, 12 time allstar, and most importantly he has a total of 11 championships in 13 years and throw in 2 more as a coach. nobody can touch that.
