I've been reading while lying in my hammock holding the book over my chest with the pages facing my head. I've done that for years. It's what I do on solo hikes when I camp.

The dinner table may be a good alternative. Just make sure you are comfortable. If you aren't comfortable, change to a different chair, bed, bean bag, recliner or whatever. Make sure you aren't straining other parts of your body and the circulation isn't slowed or cut off, because fingers or feet go to sleep when the blood flow is restricted or a nerve is pinched.
Good light is important to your eyes so you aren't straining your eyes in any position. Consider a lamp that has an arm or swivel you can move into a comfortable position. As long as you can see the words clearly you should be fine. You need a break if the words start to blur. Take 10-15 minutes and focus on different parts of the landscape or room.

This sounds weird, but i like to read lying facedown on the bed with my head hanging over the edge and my book lying on the floor.
My mom used to tell me that if i read too much it would ruin my eyesight, and i always wondered if it was true. I also read "Silas Marner" and it talked about how his eyesight was ruined from doing work so close up to him. So when i became nearsighted, i asked the doctor if it was because i read so much. He said its never been proven and posed this question to me: Am i nearsighted because i read so much, or do i read so much because im nearsighted? Pretty interesting, huh?

I prop up pillows behind me and put my feet up. Its comfortable, and I make sure the room is well lit. But I havent ever heard that lying in a bed while reading is going to ruin your eyes? I think thats just a myth.

Your eyes are not likely to suffer from reading in a prone position, but there is a more sinister possibility.
If you read until you become sleepy and let yourself doze off, you will, by repeatedly doing this, form a reflexive association between reading and sleeping. The result, and many suffer from it, is that picking up a newspaper will put you to sleep. I have known people who had a horrible time preparing for exams owing to this problem.
Advice: never read until you grow sleepy and doze. Drink surge or something, but don't go to sleep while reading.

If the weather is suitable, sit outside on a comfortable chair or chaise lounge. The natural light is better for your eyes. Avoid direct sunlight on your reading material, however.

What? Your eyes will not go bad from reading while lying down. Where did you hear that one? Rhetorical. Your eyesight is your eyesight and like everything, dims with age, no because you were lying down to read.

try sitting in your favorite chair(maybe something big and soft) and putting your feet up on a hassock. Also keep your chair next to a window and/or leave a tall lamp next to it so as not to rely on a ceiling lamp or florescent lights, which i personally find hurts my eyes when reading.

Why don't you prop your back up against a lot of pillows in bed and use a lap pillow to support your book or what about one of those video rockers that people use for playing video games?
