There are 3 different types of macbook.
For $1099 you get 512 mb ram, 1.83 Ghz intel core duo, up to 64 mb shared video ram, 80 gb hard drive.
For $1299 you get all of that, but the ram is upgraded to 1gb, and the cpu is upgraded to 2.0ghz
The black macbook is $1499 and everything is the same but the hard drive is 40 gb bigger. I would get it refurbished from apple.com it is cheaper, black macbook would not get as many scratcers, as far as fingerprints im not sure. For $200 dollars you would be paying to get the color in black, and 40 gb bigger hard drive, and that doesn't sound like the best deal to me.

The white macbooks start at a lower specification, but can be modified, when you order to be as good (spec wise) as the top of the range model (in black). So really your choice becomes dependent on your budget and your needs.

I suspect the white macbook may be more succeptable to fingerprint marks and showing dirty marks.

Hi Dan,

Congratulations on your choice of switching to the Mac. You won't regret it, Dan. I was under the impression that the black MacBook was a MacBook Pro. Maybe not. A friend of mine has one and you can see his fingerprints on that black finish pretty easily. Plus, I think that you are paying a premium for less computer, and more than the plain white version.

Best of luck on your upcoming purchase. Take care.

Well you have a problem, black is harder wearing but shows scratches and marks while white is a softer colour and so is more fragile, it also gets muck ingrained into it. Have you though of the most durable, brushed stainless or satin stainless, very sound material.
