My school's doing Les Miserables for our spring show, and I've seen the show, but I'm not sure what part to audition for.

I'm a freshman, and I have a really good voice. I was voted 'Most Likely to be Famous' in 8th grade for my singing and acting, and let's just say I'm pretty talented for a freshman.

I was planning on auditioning for Young Cosette, since I'm young, and I figured they'd want someone young for her. But now they're going to our town's middle school to find someone really young to play that part.

I'm sure I won't get the part of Eponine (even though I can sing 'On My Own' great; I feel like my voice is most like Eponine's), or Cosette, or Fantine, or anything like that, because the seniors pretty much are guaranteed to get those parts.

What part do you think I should audition for? I'd like a decent part, and I can sing great as a mezzo, but I can also sing soprano really well. I just prefer to belt out songs :)

I'd try for Eponine. Of the 3 female leads, I'd guess a non-senior would be most likely to get that one. Even if you don't get it, you'll probably get cast.
You could try to be one of the "lovely ladies"

Firstly you're so lucky, les mis is an amazing opputunity, i took part in a performance with my agencey last year. It sounds like you're resigned to not having a principal role but I'd go for eponine if you really think you can belt it, if whoever's casting likes you you may get a cameo role like girl 1, that's a nice little soprano role who's responsible for fantine losing her job or the old lady in the docks scene who is responsible for her descent into prostitution. Whatever happens good luck and have fun - even if you just get chorus do it, it's worth it

My advice is to audition for the part you want. If you have a good director he will cast the people (s)he thinks is good for the production and not by what grade they are in. I know on the applications forms that I've filled out before, they ask what character I'm auditioning for and would I be willing to play any part in the production. Make sure you mark that box "yes" The director is looking at the cast as a whole and not individual members.

If you don't think you'll get Eponine or Cosette or Fantine, your best shot for a decent role will be the Inkeeper's Wife (can't remember what her name was). But they usually want someone with a mature voice for that role. Good luck!

Gavroche is my favorite - it's a young boy part, but could easily be played by a female. I always use a whole box of Kleenex when he dies, too.

One other thought is Madame Thenardier - she's a fiend, a villainess and a COMPLETE riot. If your school doesn't censor some of her lyrics, she could be a whole lot of fun to play!

Only seeing part of the movie version I didn't find the show in good taste. To answer your question, pick out the character you liked best and try to act that part.

What about the Landlady? If you like to belt that would be great. You would need a lot of makeup and costuming and wig. But it would be a really great stretch to play something like that.
