Cigars are mainly hand rolled. The tobacco leaf is not mashed up as in cigarettes. Cigars do not contain quite as many chemicals as cigs do.

Cigarettes: A) Made from cut up tobacco of lower grade and mixed with additives to make them less harsh and more addictive. B) Cigarettes have filters (well most do anyway), and are meant to be inhaled when smoked. C) Cigarettes use a paper wrapper, a gum based glue and some type of fiber for the filter. Cigars: A) Cigars are all tobacco. Some aged longer than others and in different ways. B) Cigars are not filtered and are not meant to be inhaled. C) he makeup of a cigar is as follows: 1) Filler: the tobacco that makes up the core of the cigar. It can be a mixture of different tobacco's from different areas or from the same area. 2) Binder: a lower grade of leaf meant to hold the inner tobacco together, also adds to the flavor. 3) Wrapper: a higher quality leaf with few discernible defects. It makes the cigar look good ans often adds a great deal to the flavor of the cigar. Some prefer thinner cigars (Lancero or petite coronas) as they have a higher wrapper to filler ration, hence more flavor from the wrapper. I have smoked cigarettes in the past, and quit smoking altogether in 1994. My nephew gave me a cigar a year or so ago (November 2014 at the family Thanksgiving get together), and I quite enjoyed it. Since then I smoke one to three cigars a month, so not much at all. Both have their cons though, and are detrimental to one's health.

The cigar is the actual dried tobacco leaf, cigarettes are made from shredded and cured tobacco with such things as salt petre and preservatives added. Cigars are by nature a purer cleaner smoke.

in a cigar the leaf is rolled and in a cigarette the leaf is chopped and rolled in paper, they could both use the same tobaco leaf but the cigar will burn slower being more tightly rolled and having less air in it.

CIGAR
A cigar is a tightly rolled bundle of dried and fermented tobacco, one end of which is ignited so that its smoke may be drawn into the smoker's mouth through the other end.

The English word cigar is from the Spanish word cigarro, which in turn derives from the Mayan word for tobacco, siyar.

Cigar tobacco is grown in significant quantities in such nations as Brazil, Cameroon, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Honduras, Indonesia, Mexico, Nicaragua and the United States of America. Cigars manufactured in Cuba are widely considered to be without peer, although many experts believe that the best offerings from Honduras and Nicaragua rival those from Cuba. The Cuban reputation is thought to arise from both the unique characteristics of the Vuelta Abajo district in the Pinar del Río Province at the west of the island, where the microclimate allows high-quality tobacco to be grown; and the skill of the Cuban cigar makers.

CIGARETTE
A cigarette is a product manufactured out of cured and finely cut tobacco leaves, which are rolled or stuffed into a paper-wrapped cylinder (generally less than 120 mm in length and 10 mm in diameter). In recent years, the tax policies of governments has led to the practice of using not just the leaves, but the plant stem also.[1] The stem is first crushed and cut to resemble the leaf before being merged or blended into the cut leaf.[2] The cigarette is ignited at one end and allowed to smolder for the purpose of inhalation of its smoke from the other (usually filtered) end, which is usually inserted in the mouth. They are sometimes smoked with a cigarette holder. The term cigarette, as commonly used, refers to a tobacco cigarette but can apply to similar devices containing other herbs, such as cannabis.

A cigarette is distinguished from a cigar by its smaller size (hence the name), use of processed leaf, and white paper wrapping; cigars are typically composed entirely of whole leaf tobacco. Cigarettes were largely unknown in the English-speaking world before the Crimean War, when British soldiers began emulating their Ottoman Turkish comrades, who resorted to rolling their tobacco with newsprint.
