My son's pediatrician told me I could start giving my 2 month old a tiny bit of juice if he is acting like he is starving between feedings. He is in the 55th percentile in weight and we don't want him to get too fat. He was 6-11 when he was born, 6-3 when we came home from the hospital, 6-10 3 days later, 9-3 a month later, and now 12-3. What do you think about the juice and when did you start giving juice to your children. I have gerber juice and I am diluting it.

Personally speaking from my experience. A baby stays healthiest with str8 up breat milk or formula. I didn't give anything but that to my 4 boys until they were a year old. They are the epitomy of health now, as well. If he is straving in between feedings, maybe he just needs more feedings? Baby's get fat, and when they start crawling and walking they slim down. Thats a natural progression. Juice isn't the answer, and definately DO NOT put cereal in a bottle! Just up the babys breast milk or formula intake.

Good luck on the neverending questions of motherhood!

I personally wouldn't start as young as 2 months, for all the reasons I'm sure other people answering this question will tell you. But do you know that dentists call apple juice "cavity juice"?

My daughter is 9 weeks old, she weighed 12 lbs 1 oz at her 2 month checkup. We'll be starting solids at about 5 months, and we'll try to hold off on juice until 8 months.

I had to give my son prune juice when he was constipated. I gave him 2 ounces of water between feedings. I would try water first to see if he'll take it. My son is 2 1/2 now and is a huge water drinker...better for the teeth than juice! If you give Gerber juice dilute it 50/50 or even more water.

I would start off with non-sweetened apple juice and dilute it 50-50 or 60/40 (juice/water.) If you decide to go with sweetned, make sure it's "naturally sweetened" with other fruit juices. I would watch out for those juices sweetened with High Fructose Corn Syrup. Studies have shown the substance to cause problems in humans later in life with continued consumption. Giving an infant full-strength juice can dehydrate them and cause more discomfort than it's worth.

Children under two years old really don't need juice. You don't want them to fill their tummy on it and refuse their feedings. Just make sure you're giving your son up to 32 oz of formula a day.

You need to trust your dr. As long as you are diluting it and not giving it all of the time it will be fine. I gave my 4month old juice when he would get constipated.

Two months seems very young for juice. I gave only breastmilk to drink until one year. We started solids at 6 months. It sounds like he is gaining well!

Sounds like BS to me. I was told not to give juice or anything other than breast milk or formula for the first five months - period.
