September 11, 2001, was a Tuesday and therefore a normal work day at the twin towers; media reports stated that about 3,000 people perished or narrowly escaped the attacks; it would seem occupancy of those huge buildings (inc. workers, staff, etc.) would be many thousands of people; one media report in the recent past stated that many of the normal staff didn't show-up that day; this seems plausible since only 3,000 or so were in peril; do we know any other details, and despite the terrible tragedy, isn't 3,000 or so people a small number ...?

If I remember correctly, the news stated that the average daily occupancy of both towers was somewhere around 50,000 people... so losing on 3000 seems quite a miracle ... as that would be only 6% of the average daily occupancy ... not including the 200+ or so who perished on the jets and the rescue personnel who tended to this incident !

I certainly agree with you. The only thing I can come up with is this: The Towers were a waste of money...probably from the high cost of rent... and NYC must have all kinds of vacancies for business space. So much for prime real estate...who could afford it? Also, why would a company pay out hugh sums for high priced real estate? It just eats up profits and the companies have to charge customers to make up for it. Not prudent business practice as far as I am concerned. Unless it is all a mirage just to look good.
Yeah, I would have thought there were a minimum of 10,000 people in those towers. I am sure the terrorists thought so too. Good question...I never believed the "people didn't show up for work on Tuesday" story anyway.
