I tuned into question time on BBC1 the other day to here some whiney mouthed airhead dumpling answer the question on prison overcrowding, she stated that people shouldnt go to prison for minor crimes, and to her that meant burgulars shouldnt be their. Now its well known that career criminals will start their criminal career burgiling, and wont think about anything of killing people in their own house. I would find it ironic if any the vocal minority clapping in the audience or this moronic bin where stabbed in there own home by a housebreaker and spent the rest on their days in a wheel chair felt the same way after the crime.

The idea here is to keep petty thieves away from contact with serious criminals, because all it does is allow them to pick up more hints and tips on how to commit crimes.
If they're disturbed most burglars will just run for it, the last thing they want to do is confront someone and maybe end up being arrested. Of course, a few of the more desperate ones will fight it out which is why it's risky tackling burglars in your home. If you make it clear you know they're there by banging around, shouting you're calling the police, etc, most of them will do a runner.

Well, I have stopped watching this programme, because I am tired of the rigged audiences and the usually 'left leaning/liberal' panel, not to mention the equally biased Dimbleby. I get so angry, that I cannot sleep. It is a typical product of the biased BBC. Where does one start to criticise it, PC, feminism, pro multiculturalism, pro immigration, anti American, supports all 'the isms', pro abortion, anti religion. Oh, the list is endless, but you take my point.
These people simply don't live in the real world, they are drowning in dogma, and expect the rest of us to buy into it. It must be difficult being young these days, because of course, they are also hearing this unpatriotic nonsense day in and day out from their lefty teachers and lecturers et al.
I apologise for having broadened your main point away from crime.

You are absolutely right. It is time we cracked down very hard on crime. There is no such thing as pettty crime. Somebody always gets hurt by crime, but the authorities do not give a damn about most of it. There is a person that I know who is always committing quite serious crimes. Even the police say that he is an absolute sh1t, but they do nothing about it - mainly because he scares witnesses into refusing to give statements. Law abiding people can do nothing about him unless they sink to his level.

Sorry first get your facts straight.
To answer the issue on BBC. Looking at both sides:
- obviously all crime should have consequences
- equally obviously putting minor criminals in poor conditions or in the same place with major criminals may increase the risk of them re-offended
- lastly prisons are expensive.
Are liberals as stupid as you think? Nope. Are some of them overly idealistic? Yes. Same thing can be said about some of the conservative voices out there.

A heavily disproportionate segment of the prison population is ethnic minority.
Perhaps immigration is the root cause of prison overcrowding.
Unfortunately,although it is on their tongues,the labour opposition and right wing media cant find it in themselves to come out and say it.
If they werent here,the population in general would be smaller.The aggravating factor is that these people are 70% more likely to commit crimes than indigenous whites.
It is true that too many people are imprisoned for lesser and lesser crimes,as different political parties fall over themselves to project an image of hard on crime.

You are lucky, up here in Scotland the elections for the Scottish Parliament are threatened because prisoners claim that not being allowed to vote in elections is an infringement of their Human Rights. Did they consider the human rights of the people they burgled, raped, robbed, murdered? Did they buggery.
