I don't know that it's anything, but I do have a recurrent dream, frequently enough that I remember details, of this guy, a cowboy, who is always sitting on my couch when I enter the room. He is wearing a cowboy hat, boots and jeans, and he smells like leather. The smell is overpowering, but it's more something that I sense than actually smell. I am always surprised to find him in my apartment, but then I feel as though I have known him a very long time. I have no idea who this person is, and I can never see his face. Truly, I don't have a clue. Thought you might. Thanks!

This is interesting. Every now and then I get repeating dreams too. They are called premonitions. If you walk or drive by an associate's or friend's home and you visualize something that is about to happen, is also a premontion. During my first marriage I dreamed about our roof catching fire. the dream reoccured in the next two consecutive nights. Two days later the roof did catch on fire causing extensive damage. Can I say that your dream has the same meaning? No, but it is something that you should remember in case you have a premonition while you are awake.

Repeated dreams are usually a warning coming from our subconscious selves.
To rest on a couch - you will soon give sincere and durable friendship
to sense an unpleasant smell from a known person - try to keep away from the person and from the hatred he has for you
to sense an unpleasant smell - you are surrounded by someones scorn and disgust.
What I understood from all this, is that a known person will benefit from your unconditional friendship, even though he hates you for something (and he is probably going to hide it so he can hurt you). You must try to identify this "cowboy" in a person you know that might have some spiritual characteristics like a cowboy's and stay away from him, all he wants to do is damaged. Dreams are usually coded, only you can find out who the "cowboy" is. I hope I'm right, but if you have another understanding of it, I don't mind:)

If you were to ask this question as it pertained to someone else, I could tell you exactly and directly what this figure symbolizes in you subconscious. But the fact that this aspect of your personality manifests itself as a cowboy smelling of leather rather than something more explicit suggests that you have not confronted all the possibilities here.
You are surprised, but then you know he belongs. Consider this from every angle and your dream may disappear when you know its meaning. Many men have some such low level impulse, but go through life knowing it and never acting upon it. It's not abnormal.

Sounds interesting and kind of creepy. How does that person make you feel - uncomfortable or nice - and what is the atmosphere like (except for the smell)? Maybe the answer is somewhere within you and you only have to find it. I'm sorry that I can't help more, but I don't have enough knowledge on this subject.

This cowboy represents your more adventurous side. You strive to be more outgoing, more active and adventurous yet you restrain yourself... keeping your wild side trapped indoors.
You are surprised to see this side of yourself yet are comfortable with this adventurous version of yourself as the same time. As a cowboy, you have the freedom to do interesting things... to get out and smell nature.
Go out and enjoy the outdoors this weekend. Get in touch with your inner cowboy.

I dream a lot but am not that great at interpretation which is why my husband purchased a book for me called "The book of 20,000 dream interpretations, it's pretty interesting and catagorized with easy to follow dialogue. You may want to check it out at a local Barnes and Noble.
