That's up to you. If you don't know how to swim, I guess the length of time would be "as long as it took you to learn." If you do know how, you "CAN" swim whenever you want. I don't know if you will get your ear infected, but technically, you "CAN."

I've never heard that you can't swim with an ear piercing. Just clean it extremely well afterwards. I've only heard the swimming thing in regard to a belly button piercing...and other below the neck piercings.

Swimming really isn't going to be a problem if you properly clean your earring as directed by the piercer. The thing that may irritate it that people relate to swimming is if your at the beach and your getting sweat and sand in it.

you can swim right away if you want to. but you just need to clean them with the ear cleaning fluid they give you when you got your ears pierced.
